A Niu Invasive in Town
In May 2023, Kaua’i recorded its first Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) sightings near Līhuʻe, posing a severe threat to local ecosystems and cultural practices. Originating from Southeast Asia, CRB damages coconut palms and other tropical plants, impacting agriculture and traditional crafts. KISC and partner teams are actively monitoring and managing the situation, with two confirmed breeding sites on the island....
